WASHINGTON, D.C.—August 10, 2016—Whiteboard Advisors, a boutique strategy and communications agency that focuses on education, health, and wellness, today, announced the addition of Dr. Sarah Silverman as Vice President. The firm, with offices in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., specializes in advising businesses and organizations pioneering new models that deliver social impact in education, health and wellness, including Code.org, General Assembly, and Erickson Living.
Dr. Silverman comes to Whiteboard Advisors with nearly a decade of experience in state policy and practice. Most recently, she served as Program Director for the education division of the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA), where she advised governors and state agencies on emerging practices and policy shifts in areas like broadband and technology access, early childhood education, and workforce development. Prior to NGA, Dr. Silverman worked as Project Director for TNTP, where she advised state education leaders on the design and implementation of human capital systems. A former teacher, Dr. Silverman has her Ph.D. in educational policy and leadership.
“Sarah has a unique ability to translate complex ideas into language that makes sense to policymakers and newsmakers alike,” said Whiteboard Advisors co-founder Ben Wallerstein. “But most of all, she brings a practical lens to bear on public policy, informed by a thoughtful understanding of the important work that happens every day in the classroom.”
Whiteboard Advisors helps clients navigate complex policy issues, conducts market research, and implements breakthrough communication strategies. In 2015, Whiteboard Advisors was named one of the top organizations in Washington making an impact in education. Silverman joins the firm alongside an expert team that includes former teacher and North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, New York Times best-selling author Jeff Selingo, and former U.S. Department of Education communications chief Peter Cunningham.
“Recent changes to federal education policy have awarded states significant flexibility to build education systems that are truly student-centered,” said Silverman. “I’m thrilled to join a firm that works with innovative companies and organizations to help states and districts to realize that vision at such an important time.”
The firm’s weekly newsletter, Whiteboard Notes, is read by thousands of education experts and commentators. It also publishes Education Insider, a free monthly survey of Congressional and U.S. Department of Education staff, and a cadre of insiders on policy trends, debates, and issues from the handful of decision makers who are driving the process.
